I love this man’s smile. It’s celebratory but mildly camera shy. Thanks to Manitoba Housing and the Canadian Diabetes Association, I saw many great smiles this Canada Day. With assistance from the CDA, Manitoba Housing hosted Canada Day celebrations in Winnipeg’s Central Park and Gilbert Park. Often tagged as ‘rough neighborhoods’, both Central and Gilbert Park have received some bad press over the years. But between reports of violence, drugs, and gangs are people who call these communities home.
And so with optimism and dedication, a family friendly Canada Day was catered to the people who need it most. Hats off to these organizations and many volunteers. The parks were busy, the agenda was full, and the smiles were big.
